If you continue to sand it, you'll have a wavy dip in the floor. Chances are that if you bleach the wood, it won't bleach out to the point where you can re-stain and match the remaining floor. Controlling the bleach process isn't too difficult, but it's hard to forecast how much the wood will lighten up.
